Public Speaking for 9th & 10th Graders

Break Through Track · Theme: Emergence & Identity

Break Through is built for the second identity shift — high school. Ninth and tenth graders are forming reputations, navigating higher-stakes social dynamics, and showing up in rooms where presence actually matters: class presentations, extracurricular pitches, part-time job interviews, leadership positions. This track teaches them to build that reputation on something real.

The word "emergence" is deliberate. You're no longer the new student — you're a person with a reputation, and that reputation is being built whether you're building it deliberately or not. Break Through teaches students to build it deliberately.

Session four is called Hard Rooms — and that's exactly what it trains for. Distracted audiences, skeptical teachers, hostile interviewers. The students who come out of this track don't just know how to give a speech. They know how to hold their presence when the room is working against them.

Curriculum

Five sessions — built to build

Summer: five consecutive days, 90 minutes each. Fall/spring: once a week for five weeks, 60 minutes each.

  1. 01
    Emergence
You're no longer the new student. Your reputation is already being built — this session is about building it deliberately.
  2. 02
    Identity
Authentic presence in rooms with higher stakes. Pillar two in full practice: don't fake it, emerge as yourself.
  3. 03
    The REAL Pitch
The same framework — applied in adversarial conditions. Skeptical audiences, hard follow-up questions, real pressure.
  4. 04
    Hard Rooms
Distracted, hostile, or higher-status audiences. How to hold your presence when the room is working against you.
  5. 05
    Showcase
A 5-minute persuasive speech. Real stakes, real audience, real influence.

FAQ

Common questions about Break Through

What will my 9th or 10th grader learn?
Five sessions: emergence and reputation-building, authentic presence in higher-stakes rooms, the REAL Pitch framework under adversarial conditions (skeptical audiences, hard follow-up questions), how to hold your presence when the room is working against you, and a 5-minute persuasive speech showcase.
What does "Hard Rooms" mean?
Session four specifically trains for distracted, skeptical, or higher-status audiences. In every room your student walks into over the next decade — club pitches, team tryouts, job interviews, college visits — they'll face people who are not automatically on their side. We train that specifically so it's not a surprise.
Will this help with college prep later?
Yes. The REAL Pitch and authentic presence skills built in this track carry directly into the Leading Edge track (11–12th grade), which covers college interviews, TED-style keynotes, and leadership communication. Break Through builds the foundation; Leading Edge polishes it for the application process.
Where does Break Through meet?
Summer camp: Woodstock Community Church, 4411 Towne Lake Pkwy, Woodstock GA. Fall/spring: at partner school campuses, Wednesdays either before school (7:15–8:15 AM) or after school (3:45–4:45 PM).
How much does it cost?
Summer day camp: $750/week (5 days, 90 min/day, 14 seats max). Fall or spring cohort: $650 (5 weeks, 60 min/week, 18 seats max). $100 of every fall/spring seat goes back to the partner school or PTA.
